Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Conference
Members of the Lexington chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America attended the Region V Conference in Corpus Christi, TX February 10-12, 2011. The chapter members were among 900 delegates attending the two- day conference. The youth developed theme, “Ignite The FCCLA Flame”, carried out through different pictures of Olympians, which featured a series of specialized workshops and general sessions in which students discovered ways to become actively involved in issues facing today’s youth.
STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members participate at the region meeting. These events allow members to showcase their life skills in different areas of competition. From Lexington, 11 students competed in 4 different categories of STAR Events. Adrian Lovings competed in Career Investigation. Kaila Coolidge, Ashley Johnson, Ariel Kirkpatrick, Heather Mills, Aleece Moerbe and Kaylie Sherman competed in Parliamentary Procedure and placed 4th. Sara Hannigan and Brooke Herklotz competed in Entrepreneurship and placed 5th. Rachael Beard and Christen Schneider competed in Focus on Children and placed 1st. Donn Miller competed in a LEO (Leadership Enhancement Opportunity) and earned a Bronze medal. Raimond French was elected to the State officer team for 2011- 2012.
FCCLA is a dynamic youth organization that has the family as its central focus. Student leaders of Texas FCCLA are ready to “Ignite the FCCLA Flame” and progress with programs related Architecture and Construction, Arts, A/V Technology and Communication, Education and Training, Hospitality and Tourism, and Human Services.
