Chief Davenport Resigns
Chief Randy Davenport submitted a Letter of Resignation to Mayor Robert Willrich, Sr. yesterday, following a series of events where he and his department became the subject of several complaints submitted by local citizens. In his letter to the Mayor, he wrote that he would stay on until March 31, 2011 in order to give the city time to hire a new Police Chief.
He told The Leader, "I love Lexington and its people and this controversy is driving our people apart. I don't want that to happen, so I'm leaving."
As of this time, the Citizen's Committee that was organized by the City Council following a February 9, 2011 meeting, will continue to meet.
