Thorndale Tops Eagles
Doug Rhodes dropped in a three-pointer for Lexington’s first bucket. Thorndale then ran off eight straight points before Zach Lay bombed another trey. Kevin Johnson caught a rebound and put back to make the score 8-8 with 2: 05 left in the first quarter. Thorndale scored two more buckets to end the quarter ahead 12-8.
Lexington remained competitive in the second quarter as Kaelan Blok got rolling. Blok hit a pair of three-points shots and then had an old fashioned three pointer with a shot and free throw. Lay hit another long shot and Donnie Havard hit a twisting shot going to the basket. In all Lexington scored 16 in the second period as Thorndale led 39-24 at halftime.
The third quarter proved to be the Waterloo for Lexington. The Eagles remained scoreless for the first seven minutes of the quarter before Blok got two on a hustle play. He shot from the corner, got the rebound, shot again, got the rebound and finally put the ball in the basket. Havard got a deuce just before the end of the quarter but Thorndale had scored 21 to Lexington’s four.
Blok did all the Lexington scoring in the fourth quarter with a trey and two free throws. The rest of the team could not buy a bucket. The Eagle team never quit hustling but the results just were not forthcoming.
Blok led the Eagles in scoring with 16-points. The rest of the Lexington hoopsters were in single digits.
