Rogers Nips Eagles 50-49

by Mike Organ

Lexington fell to Rogers 50-49 Tuesday night in the tightest game seen in Lexington in a while. Rogers jumped out to an early lead, Lexington fought back to tie and eventually lead 49-48 but Rogers had the final winning shot.

Lexington scored only seven points in the first quarter as Rogers banked 15. The Eagle defense stiffened and allowed Rogers only eight points in the second quarter while scoring another seven. The third quarter saw the Eagles find the scoring touch as they put up 18 points. Lexington had closed to 35-32 with the final quarter remaining.

The final quarter was entertaining as Lexington continued to come back. Jason Washington made one of two free throws with 28.27 seconds left. Rogers inbounded the ball, dribbled up the court, made one pass to Garcia, who drove down the middle of the Eagle defense and layed in the winning bucket with eight seconds left in the game. Lexington got off one fruitless shot as time expired.
