Lexington traveled to Franklin for a scrimmage Saturday and hosted Rockdale Monday afternoon. The weather was great for the Franklin scrimmage. “Our pitchers threw strikes and made the batters hit balls they didn’t want to. The Eagle defense backed the pitchers up pretty good, making routine plays and a couple of above average plays,” said Coach Craig Finley. “We had times when we swung the stick well and other times we just let the ball go for a strike. We are pleased with the pitching and defense. The pitching is not overpowering, just throwing strikes, and being ahead in the count.

The Eagles scrimmaged Giddings last Monday with similar results. All the pitchers were on a strict pitch count so as not to injure their arms early in the season. Our defense played well, committing one error in the initial scrimmage.

Finley is very pleased with the turnout for baseball. There are some 30+ players out this year, a record for Lexington. It will enable a full JV season and allow some of the players to mature into quality players. Several of the athletes have not played baseball since Little League.

The Eagles open the season February 24th with the Lexington Tourney.
