Eagles Get More Football Honors
Murray was Lexington’s leading receiver this season with 51 snags. Those catches were for 995 yards and 13 TD’s. (an average of one touchdown for every four passes caught). Murray also ran for 267 yards and four scores. He was a third team allstate pick by the Texas Sportswriters Association.
Chance Sherrill was the leading tackler for the Eagles with 165 stops with 42 for a loss. He also had two interceptions and was a third team all-state pick by the TSWA. Sherrill displayed a lot of grit playing undersized ( physically) at a linebacker position. He may have been undersized physically, but his heart was bigger than anybody he faced.
Kogan Garrett, the Eagles’ superb sophomore quarterback was selected to the second team. Garrett’s stat as reported were 140 completions in 238 passes for 2,428 yards and 30 touchdowns. Garrett has two more years with the Eagles and with receivers like Murray could post astronomical numbers.
Xavier Ward was selected to the second team for his 1,651 yards on 238 carries and 23 TD’s. He also caught 21 passes for 350 yards. Ward also threw a TD an important TD pass versus West Rusk.Ward was a 3rd team all-state selection by the TSWA.
Anthony Robbins was selected to the second team All BV just as he was chosen 2nd team all state by the AP. Robbins had 107 tackles, with nine sacks, and five forced fumbles.
Chace Sherrill was chosen 2nd team All BV. He had 144 tackles, three forced fumbles, seven sacks, with 27 of the tackles for a loss. Chace was chosed 2nd team all state by AP.
With Murray and Garrett coming back for the 2011 season, the Eagles are looking forward to a repeat run at the state title.
