George Edward Moore Sr.
George Edward Moore Sr. was born on November 5, 1928 in the Knobbs Community in Lee County, Texas to Edward “Edd” Mason & Wilhelmina “Willie” (Alford) Moore. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and obtained the rank of Private First Class. George was united in marriage to Dorothy Frosch on June 17, 1956 at the Lexington United Methodist Church in Lexington. He was a plumber who trained many plumber helpers through the years who eventually obtained their plumbing licenses. After retiring from the plumbing business, George enjoyed farming and ranching and also did custom hay bailing. He was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in McDade where he had served as President of the congregation and was instrumental in the construction of the present sanctuary and sunday school building. He was currently a member of New Hope Lutheran Church in McDade. George was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8313 in McDade where he had served as Commander and Quartermaster for many years. He was a member of the McDade Watermelon Festival Association and helped barbeque for the event for many years. He also served as a driver for the McDade Watermelon Festival parade float.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd & Willie Moore and a brother, Wilburn “ Curly” Moore.
George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Moore of McDade; six children, George Jr. & Jana Moore of Cedar Creek, David & Belinda Moore of McDade, Jeanne Wray of Houston, Lisa & Mike Lavender of Bryan, Lori Pohorelsky of Houston and Gary & Heather Moore of Brenham; six grandchildren, Samantha Moore of Cedar Creek, Trey Moore of Cedar Creek, Bradley & Alyssa Moore of Elgin, Brittany Moore of San Diego, CA, Marty & Katrina Malinak of Ft. Worth and Devin Moore of San Antonio; nine step- grandchildren, Matthew & Missy Pohorelsky of Giddings, Daniel Pohorelsky of South Dakota, Eric Auld of Hawaii, Kailyn Capps of Brenham, Emily Gonzales of Brenham, Alexis Zach of Brenham, Alana Lavender of Waco, Jason Lavender of College Station and Michelle Lavender of Kansas City, KS; brother, John & Marie Moore of McDade; sister, Thelma McDavid of McDade; three sisters-in-law, Vernell & Morris Kastner of McDade, Florene & Billy Tom McDaniel of Rockdale and Lela Faye Barker of Red Rock; brother-in-law, Charles & Carol Frosch of Bryan as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for George Moore Sr., 82 of McDade, Texas, were held at 3: 00 p. m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Henry Hemmeter and Rev. Alvin Epperson officiating. Burial followed in the McDade Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m and on Saturday from 8:00 a m. until 3:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Moore family was present for visitation Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers were Forrest McDavid, Chuck McDaniel, Greg Barker, Kevin Frosch, Jared Frosch and Russell Bostic. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the former McDade VFW Post 8313.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice.
Following the committal service, everyone was invited to the McDade Historical Building for light refreshments.
