Lady Buffs Stay Undefeated

by Coach Lee Essman

The Lady Buffs Varsity Basketball team ran their district record to 7-0 this past week against La Grange and Caldwell. On Tuesday, the girls traveled to La Grange to take on a determined Lady Leopard squad. The game was a low scoring affair to begin with and the Lady Buffs had a 19-16 lead at halftime. Cold shooting and a good effort by the Lady Leps kept Giddings from getting in a rhythm offensively. The Lady Buffs decided to turn up the defensive pressure late in the third that carried over to a 24 point scoring barrage in the fourth quarter and held La Grange to 10 points. The Lady Buffs were only up 33-31 at the end of the third and went on to win 57-39 to put La Grange in a must win situation with a record of 2-4.

On Friday, the Lady Buffs hosted Caldwell. The Lady Hornets came to play and were up 12-11 on the Lady Buffs at the end of the first and the Giddings team once again drew upon their defensive pressure to outscore Caldwell 16-0 in the second to take a 27-12 halftime advantage. The game was played pretty much even in the second with Giddings holding a 19-16 advantage on to a 46-28 victory.

The Lady Buffs are now 7-0 in district, 14-12 for the season and have secured no less than a tie for second place in district.
