Honors for Football Eagles

Six Lexington Eagle football players received honors last week when the Collin Street Bakery/ Texas Sports Writers Association announced their all- state selections. Voting was done by sports writers from all over the state.

Anthony Robbins and Chace Sherrill received second team honors. Chance Sherrill, Josh Murray, and Xavier Ward received third team honors. Kogan Garrett received honorable mention in the balloting.

Robbins had 87 tackles, 57 for losses. He caused three fumbles, had six sacks and nine quarterback pressures from his defensive line position.

Chace Sherrill had 121 tackles from his strong safety position, 22 of those tackles were behind the line of scrimmage. He caused two fumbles, had seven sacks, eight pressures.

Twin Chance Sherrill had 148 tackles, 34 for losses, three caused fumbles, five sacks, and five quarterback pressures.

Xavier Ward was the Eagles running offense most of the year. He rushed for 1,258 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also caught passes for 312 yards for four more scores.

Josh Murray was the most exciting player to watch when he had the ball in his hands. He caught 39 passes for 810 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also had 267 yards rushing and four additional scores. He also played a mean defensive back for the Eagles.

Garrett received votes to earn honorable mention. The sophomore quarterback is an excellent passer and runs with more authority than most defenses expected.

Murray and Garrett return to the Eagles next season; the rest will graduate in May.
