City and School Elections Around the Corner

The time to sign up to run for City Council or for Lexington ISD Board of Trustees will begin on Monday, February 14 and continue through March 14, 2011. City Council positions are twoyear terms and LISD Trustee positions are three-year terms. The General Election for these positions is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2011.

Three positions are opening on the Lexington City Council – those currently held by Tim Brown, Greg Langehennig and Tony Tavary.

Brown said, “Yes, I will run for City Council again. I’ve lived my whole life in Lexington and I look forward to continue serving the people of this fine community.”

Langehennig said he had not yet made the decision to run again. “I’m not yet certain if I’ll be running for City Council this next cycle; however, I really want to encourage our citizens who are interested in our local government to sign up and get involved.”

Tavary said that he too would definitely seek another term on the council. “ I thoroughly enjoy serving our community and am totally committed to it.”

Three positions are also opening on the Lexington ISD Board of Trustees – those held by Jenny Lu Jones, Jeremy Romoser and Dr. Mark Strain. The Leader learned that Strain would be running for LISD Board of Trustees again, but as of press time had not talked to Jones or Romoser.

Prospective City Council members can sign up, February 14 through March 14, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at City Hall. Prospective LISD Board of Trustee members can sign up during that same time, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the LISD Administrative Office.
