Gladys Justice Rutherford
Gladys Willie Justice Rutherford was born on July 31, 1919 in Oklahoma to Herman & Mary Eva (Hickman) Justice. She was united in marriage to William Charles Rutherford on Memorial Day in 1937. Gladys owned and operated Mr. Hamburger in Galena Park for many years. She was a member of the Bastrop County Extension Homemakers and the SPJST in Elgin. She enjoyed embroidering, gardening and especially growing and taking care of her many flowers.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Herman & Mary Justice; her husband, William Rutherford; brother, Jamie Justice; sister, Louise Carey; sonin law, Pete Scanlin and a grandson, Jay Shannon.
She is survived by her four daughters, Jane Scanlin & Roger Tucker of Paige, Linda & Gary Orts of Paige, Gale Rutherford of Washington and Charlotte & Dale Calhoun of Kemah; eleven grandchildren, Wendy & Brian Turner of Paige, Melissa Johnson of Coldsprings, Cassie & Jeff Nichols of Willis, Lloyd & Rhonda Johnson of Mt. Enterprise, Bill Heiser of Washington, Christopher & Amanda Heiser of Washington, Mandy Heiser of Washington, Rusty & Carin Ponder of Navasota, Laura & Aaron Smelley of Colorado, Tammy Butler of Houston and Robert Butler of Brazoria; 10 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren; brother, Pete Justice of Austin as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Gladys Rutherford, 91 of Bastrop, Texas and formerly of McDade, Texas, were held at10: 00 a. m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Pastor Don Davis of the Bastrop Presbyterian Fellowship officiating. Burial followed in the McDade Cemetery in McDade. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 11:00 a. m. until 9: 00 p. m. and Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
Serving as pallbearers were Brian Turner, Neil Frerick, Con Keirsey, Roger Tucker, Gary Orts and Dale Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers were Rusty Ponder and Chris Heiser.

Following the committal service at McDade Cemetery, the family invited everyone to join them for a meal at the Paige Community Center located at 117 South Main Street in Paige, Texas.
