Arnold Herman Krause

September 13, 1924 - January 29, 2011

Mr. Krause passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings.

Arnold Herman Krause was born on September 13, 1924 at Serbin, Lee County, Texas, the son of John H. & Alma (Hohle) Krause. He was baptized on September 21, 1924 by Rev. Herman Schmidt at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin and was confirmed on April 10, 1938 also at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. Herman Schmidt. His confirmation verse was Psalm 143:10 “Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God, the Spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness”.

Arnold served in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He received his Honorable Discharge on August 6, 1946 having obtained the rank of Sergeant.

On November 19, 1950 he was united in marriage to Hildegard Winkler at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor, Texas by Rev. L. Karcher. Their lives were blessed with three children. They lived in the Northrup community all their life, farming and ranching. Arnold was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin where he had served as an Elder and on the Finance Committee and the Picnic Committee. He was also a committee member of the Lee County ASCS for many years and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Paul; three sisters, Esther King and her husband, Daniel, Ruth Teinert and her husband, Herbert and Irene Kasper and her husband, Harold; son-in-law, Edward Zoch and two brothersin law, Delmus Franks and Gilbert Schneider.

Arnold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hildegard Krause of Giddings; his daughters, Jane and her husband, Dwight Hoffman of Giddings and Irene and her husband, David Hempel of Giddings; his son, Billy J. Krause and his wife, Kami of Round Top; three sisters, Lorine & Herbert Zoch of Houston, Mildred Franks of Broussard, LA and Ellen Schneider of Giddings; one brother, Elton Krause of Houston; sister-in-law, Meta Krause of Metarie, LA; ten grandchildren, Carrie & Arnold Gonzales of Giddings, Christiane & Monty Hobbs of Mansfield, Shannon & Lisa Zoch of Ft. Meade, Maryland, Stephen & Stephanie Hoffman of Baton Rouge, LA, Amanda & Nicholas Croll of Lincoln, NE, Alyce Hoffman and friend, Keith Lagrone of Katy, Timothy Hoffman of Richardson, Amy & Joey Billig of Giddings, John Hempel of Huntsville and Matthew Krause of Round Top; five great grandchildren, Dylan Zoch of Giddings, Michelle and Lilianne Gonzales of Giddings and Micah and Johanna Hobbs of Mansfield and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services for Arnold Krause, 86 of Giddings, Texas, were held at 10: 00 a. m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held Monday from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Krause family was present for visitation Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers were Bruce Schatte, Shea Kasper, Karl Thiele, Royce Schulze, Jed Polnick and Daryl Schulze. Honorary pallbearers were Arnold Gonzales, Monty Hobbs, Shannon Zoch, Stephen Hoffman, Nicholas Croll, Timothy Hoffman, Joey Billig, John Hempel, Matthew Krause, Dylan Zoch, Micah Hobbs and Larry Kasper.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Restoration Fund, the St. Paul Lutheran Church Organ Fund, Brazos Valley Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.
