High Speed Chase Ends in Fatality
Last Friday evening, around 6 p.m., 30-year-old Justin Anderson from Leander died in a two-car accident following a high speed chase on Highway 21 that began in Lee County. According to DPS, Trooper Aaron Early attempted to pull over a 2006 Chevy 4-door vehicle driven by Anderson, who suddenly took off. The trooper pursued Anderson from Lee to Burleson County on Highway 21 at a high rate of speed.
According to DPS, Anderson was traveling eastbound when he crossed into the westbound lane and hit a 2004 Chevy pickup headon near CR 324, about five miles west of Caldwell. The pickup was driven by 38-year-old Cameron McCuller from Caldwell. Police records show that Anderson’s vehicle flipped over and came to rest in the median upside down. Anderson died at the scene.
McCuller was taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan in stable condition with leg injuries.
Leading the investigation was Trooper Clay James Zotz from Caldwell. He was assisted by Troopers John Anderson, Jessy Clarence Boykin, Jason J. Adams and Rowland David Akins, all from Caldwell; Aaron Early and Richard Krenek from Giddings; Tommy J. Lyons from Bryan; Scott Swick from Franklin and Richard Jacobs from Austin.
Traffic on Highway 21 between Caldwell and Old Dime Box was backed up for several hours Friday night because of the wreck.
