Brush Fire Gets Out of Hand

Lexington Volunteer Fire Department was called to a grass fire on the Rhodus property approximately one mile East of Blue on FM 696 West on Wednesday, January 19. The land owners were burning a brush pile in a gully and the fire got away from them. Approximately 2 to 3 acres burned.

LVFD responded with two trucks manned by Daryl Shed, Mickey Milburn, Chris Billings, and Robert Mack. Jarrett Ahrendt and Rodney Qualls stayed at the station for additional assistance if needed.

Blue VFD also responded with one truck manned by Ben Burg.

Assistant Fire Chief Michael Milburn said, “This is a good example of how it is still unsafe for outdoor burning due to the large amounts of dormant vegetation produced by the late rains this past year.”
