Herman Gustav Wernecke
Herman Gustav Wernecke was born on March 7, 1923 in Giddings, Texas to Gustav & Selma (Prellop) Wernecke. He was baptized on March 18, 1923 and confirmed on April 5, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. G.W. Fischer and served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. Herman was a lifelong farmer and an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he had served as an usher and an elder. He enjoyed gardening and giving away the vegetables he grew to family and friends.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav & Selma Wernecke and a brother, Erwin Wernecke.
He is survived by his three sisters, Alwine Schneider of Giddings, Lillie & Clarence Winter of Austin and Frieda Wernecke of Giddings; eight nieces, Janice Schneider of Giddings, Dianne & Clyde Schneider of Giddings, Sharon & Stephen Douglas of Missouri City, Sandra & Pat Reynolds of Morrisville, NC, Suzanne & Jim Sunvison of Georgetown, Cindy & Louis Turi of Austin, Cathy & Kirk Jonse of Manor and Carol Winter of Austin and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services for Herman Wernecke, 87 of Giddings, are scheduled for 2: 00 p. m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn Teinert, Clyde Schneider, Stephen Douglas, Jim Sunvison, Louis Turi and Kirk Jonse.
