Eagles Storm Past Lago Vista

by Mike Organ

Lexington used a physical, stingy defense to beat Lago Vista 49-37 Tuesday night for their first district win. Xavier Ward and Eriq Mitchell led the Eagles in scoring with 13 and 10 points respectively. This was a battle of teams whose football teams went 15 or 16 weeks for the season.

Lexington actually won the game with a 13 to 6 run in the first quarter. From there, Lexington kept up the half court defensive pressure that caused several turnovers by the Viking ball handlers. Lexington led 27-21 at the half. Lago tightened the game to 36-33 after three quarters.

The Eagles then turned up the defensive pressure in the fourth period. The Eagles outscored Lago 13-4 in the fourth to get to the final 49-37 score.

Ward had several drives to the basket that went unfinished or the score could have been much worse. Jason Washington did a good job of running the Eagle offense and finding the open player for a shots.
