Coach Jason Holcomb and his staff are to be congratulated for the season just concluded. The players were very well prepared for each opponent and nothing was a surprise to them on the field. The players gave their all in every game and were deserving of ending the season in the final scheduled game of the year.
This run through the playoffs was full of experiences. The Eagle offense was balanced and scored by land and by air. The defense got several “scoop and scores” throughout the season and playoffs. Xavier Ward had one against Frankston and Chace Sherrill had one against Refugio, almost.
I saw something in the Refugio game I had never seen in the 60+ years I have watched football. The Refugio lad took the kick off and started running. His teammate intentionally tackled him from behind, for what reason, I don’t know. I had never seen anything like that before.
The information and communication available through the internet is unfathomable. Websites have statistics on most teams throughout the state. The forums give players, fans, and sideline coaches the opportunity to state their opinions on opponents, themselves, and coaches play calling through anonymous names. Some of the posts are quite humorous like the one I quoted last week.
Did you see some people at the playoff games you had not seen in many years? When a team advances deep into the playoffs like Lexington did, it can create some mini-class reunions for Eagle exes that haven’t seen each other in years.
