Lady Eagles Fell Florence 30-24

by Mike Organ
Lexington defeated Florence Friday evening to earn their first win of the 2010-11 district race. Lexington achieved the victory despite woeful shooting from the field. Lexington did show a marked improvement in free throw shooting as they made 10 of 14 attempts.

Lexington was 0-9 from the field in the first quarter, getting only three free throws. After getting two more free throws from Angel Parks, Lexington got three-pointers from Rachel Clark and Mackenzie Brown to claim the lead. It was not until just before halftime the Lady Eagles got a deuce from Parks. Lexington led 13-9 at the break due to defense and blocking out on Florence field goal attempts.

After making the two treys in the second quarter, Lexington failed on their next eight tries. Lexington was able to control the ball and keep Florence down on the scoreboard with hustling loose balls, contesting shots, and keeping fouls to a minimum.

Parks led Lexington in scoring with 11. Deja Griffin tossed in seven more for the Eagle cause. Parks also led the team in rebounding with nine caroms collected. Florence JV beat the Lexington JV girls 19-16. Kirsten Boettcher led the JV in scoring with 10.
