Commissioners Approve Modified Bid for Courthouse
Lee County Commissioners heard answers to some questions about the repairs to the Courthouse and then approved the modified bid specifications last Monday. It is expected that this next round of bids will fully meet the requirements of the Texas Historical Commission for the first phase of the repairs, which will be on the Courthouse foundation. The repair work is expected to begin in February 2011.
The Court also heard from James Breeden of LiveAir Networks concerning their proposal to use the existing fiber optic line that runs from the old Sheriff’s office to the Courthouse. This is one of the steps needed to significantly improve the internet service in the Courthouse and ultimately tie all the County Offices into a single network and reduce internet costs to the County.
The Court also approved renting space on the tower at the old jail building to Zochnet to provide wireless internet service in the Giddings area, pending a letter from LiveAir.
The Commissioners decided to continue the current Burn Ban for the county. Because of the high fire danger, the Commissioners voted to prohibit certain fireworks in the unincorporated areas of the County. These include all aerial fireworks. This restriction will be in effect until the Burn Ban is lifted.
The court heard the annual report from the Lee County Extension Office and others regarding all the activities for the past year.
