Eagles to Face Refugio in Semis
The #2 Lexington Eagles will face #1 ranked Refugio Saturday night at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas at 6:00 pm.
The Bobcats are undefeated in the 2010 season as are the Eagles. Refugio has beaten Rice Consolidated, Hallettsville, Robstown, and Skidmore-Tynan in non-district action. District victims were: Rivera Kaufer, Freer, Hebbronville, and Premont. None of the district opponents got closer than 47 points to the talented Refugio.
After winning district the Bobcats defeated Three Rivers 63- 6, Poth 34-19, and Schulenburg 42- 35.
The Refugio offense is very potent but the defense has given up 146 points prior to the Schulenburg game. Refugio has scored 70-points three times this season. The Bobcat offense had not seen a quality defense until they played Poth. Poth played the Bobcats even until the fourth quarter. Poth scored to make the score 20-19 and was going for two. Refugio stopped the try. On the ensuing drive Refugio scored. As time was running out, the Bobcats made a ‘pick six’ on a Poth pass for the final score.
Look for Lexington to win this one. The scoring differential could be more than one might expect. This is about the level of the playoffs where Refugio bows out annually.
To get to Berry Center: Take US 77 to Giddings, turn left on US 290. Follow 290 until you see the Barker-Cypress road exit. Turn right on Barker-Cypress and the Berry Center will be on your right, just after you cross West Road.
The trip should take only about two hours. Give yourself a little extra time, since this is the outer edges of Houston Metro.
