By Victor Gonzales Lee County Game Warden

I saw some good deer this past weekend; it didn’t mean more deer were harvested, but from photos and emails sent to me, the quality of buck has improved since opening weekend.

For the past two years, a youth hunting program has been implemented in Lee County. Several landowners have given of their time by allowing the use of their properties for shooting, hunting and fishing. I am currently searching for landowners and/or ranches interested in sponsoring one or more Lee County youth during December or the January youth weekend season.

For years now, game wardens across the state have been taking kids hunting and fishing in an effort to stir their interest in the great outdoors. Normally, the candidates are from low income or single parent families that need assistance and show an interest in hunting. Other times, they may represent good kids in need of a mentor or big brother/ big sister. If you are interested in making a kid happy, give me a call.

As always, contact me at 979-540-0194 (cell) or victor.gonzales@tpwd.state.tx.us.
