Woman’s Body Found on Old McDade Road

Bastrop County Sheriff’s Department also investigates murder-suicide

Donna Marie Self Donna Marie Self The body of a white woman was found on Old McDade Road, west of Lexington near Elgin, last Saturday, November 27,2010 at about 9:20 a.m. Donna Marie Self’s body was found by Bastrop County Sheriff’s Deputy Molly Davis. Self had just turned 40 in May of this year.

Deputy Davis was on routine patrol when she noticed some suspicious bedding items along the 900 block of Old McDade Road. When the deputy looked closer, she saw the body nearby.

The body was taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy. The ME performed the autopsy on Sunday, November 28 and ruled the death a homicide. Details on the homicide are very limited. The case is still under investigation. This was one of two homicides Bastrop County investigated over the Thanksgiving Holiday.

According to the Bastrop Sheriff ’s Department, on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at approximately 5:05 p.m., Bastrop County Dispatch received a 911 call of a suicide and possible missing child at 217 Pine Tree Loop in Bastrop. Bastrop County Deputies and Investigators arrived on the scene to find a deceased adult male subject, Jason Ackley, 33 years old, with a gunshot wound. After a brief search, Hunter James Stephens, a 2 year old child, was found deceased also with a gunshot wound.

On November 25, 2010, an autopsy was performed by the Travis County Medical Examiner who made a preliminary determination of suicide for the adult male and homicide for the child.

Ackley was the step-father to Hunter. The Ackley family was in town visiting family for the holidays. They are from the Houston area. This case is under investigation.
