Man Found Dead in Giddings Motel
James Brian Herndon, 31-years old from Giddings, was found dead in America’s Best Value Inn located at 1600 E. Austin Street in Giddings last Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Officer Steve Spencer with the Giddings Police Department was dispatched to the motel after receiving a report that a person was on the floor inside room 203 of the motel and they were having difficulty getting the door open.
Upon arrival at the Inn, shortly after 9:17 a.m., Officer Spencer and Officer Cummings (GPD) learned that Herndon, an LVN working for Country Care Plex in Giddings, was in the room and had failed to show up for work that morning. Entry into the room was managed by cutting the secondary lock on the door and officers observed a white male lying at the foot of the bed. Officers reported that the body showed obvious signs of mortality.
EMS was dispatched and arrived on the scene. Paramedic Steve Clawson entered the room and confirmed the male subject to be deceased. Sgt. Ramsey, Lt. Harney and Chief of Police Rhoten arrived on the scene.
Justice of the Peace Troy Bise was called, who arrived and pronounced the subject deceased. Judge Bise ordered an autopsy and the body was released to Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home, to be transferred to the Travis County Medical Examiner for the autopsy.
Next of kin was notified in New Mexico. Services are pending for Herndon.
