Eagles Win Area!
Lexington ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jason Holcomb is preparing his winning Eagles for yet another challenge in the team’s quest to bring home a state title. Last Friday night, Lexington defeated Frankston 21-13 at the state-of-the-art Waco ISD stadium for the Area Championship title.
The Eagles’ Area win was a tightly contested event, where all of Lexington’s scoring came in the second quarter of the game. While that doesn’t necessarily sound like an exciting summary for a game, coaches, players and fans will all tell you that it was indeed an exhilarating game. A complete play-by-play exposition can be found on page C1 of today’s paper.
The Area win moves Lexington into the Regional Semifinals, which will be played this Friday night in Fairfield, south of Dallas, at 7:30, against another tough team, the blue and white Corrigan Camden Bulldogs.
While Lexington has had their share of challenges this season, so has Corrigan Camden. According to Mike Organ, “They [Corrigan Camden] opened the season with a loss to Woodville 6-7. Next they lost to Diboll 14- 40 and to Newton 6-40, before beating Hearne 30-6. State power Crockett beat them 8-41 to give them a 1-4 record before district play began. From that point on, the Bulldogs have reeled off six straight wins before facing the Eagles this week. I know the Eagles plan to end the Bulldogs’ winning season Friday night.”
