Sheriff’s Department Investigates Questionable Death
On Wednesday October 3, 2010 at 5:20 p.m. the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a Terry Brown. Brown reported that he had found a man under a pickup truck at 1321 PR 4021 in Dime Box.
Officers went to the scene and discovered Robert E. Burnett, age 78, trapped under his 2003 Dodge pickup truck. Burnett was deceased and had been under the truck for an undetermined length of time.
Upon further investigation it was revealed that Burnett’s truck was in reverse, backed over him trapping him under the front wheel of the driver’s side.
Justice of the Peace Danita Smith held the inquest and ordered an autopsy on Burnett. The body was removed by Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings and taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death is pending the results of the autopsy report.
Burnett had formerly lived in the Tanglewood area and recently moved to Dime Box.
Officers involved in the investigation were Sheriff Rodney Meyer, Deputy Nathan Lapham, Deputy Jack Allen and Texas Ranger Brent Barina.
