Giddings Man Injured in Motorcycle Accident

William Edward Budnik, 55, from Giddings, suffered incapacitating injuries in a motorcycle accident last Saturday night shortly before 8:30. DPS Trooper Robert Thorp was dispatched to the scene where he determined that Budnik had been traveling eastbound on FM 1697 near Somerville Lake, south of Dime Box. According to the officer’s report, Budnik ran off the right side of the roadway into the south ditch. When he attempted to return to the roadway, he lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over, ejecting Budnik in the ditch. His motorcycle continued across the road, coming to rest in the north ditch.

A friend was traveling with Budnik on a separate motorcycle and said they had been taking turns passing one another on the road when the accident happened. Budnik was not wearing a helmet at the time.

Budnik was life-flighted to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. The extent of his injuries is not known at this time. Trooper Thorp’s report indicated that a number of things may have contributed to the accident, including speeding, driver inattention and taking faulty evasive action, as well as alcohol.
