Giddings to Caldwell

by Mike Organ

Giddings travels to Caldwell for what could be the marquee game in Central Texas this week. Caldwell is undefeated with wins over Bellville 26-0, Austin Crockett 63-0, Madisonville 40-19, Waco Connally 48-6, and an impressive 21-15 win over Brookshire Royal in their non-district finale. The Hornets opened district play with an unimpressive win over winless Smithville 59-41.

The Hornets scrimmaged Lexington in the first outing of the year. They were not that impressive against the Eagles but have been terrors to the first six opponents in the regular season. Running back Kedrin Sheppard and quarterback D.J. Cumby are the returning skill players for Caldwell. There is good size in the lines and speed in the defensive backs. The linebacking corps has been developing for the Hornets.

The 41-points given up to Smithville was a surprise to a lot of football ‘experts’. Smithville is winless for the season and has not scored many times this season. This is after Caldwell scored shut outs in the first two games of the season.

Regardless of the outcome of this game expect both these teams to be in the post season tournament.
