South TexasFarm and Ranch Show

The South Texas Farm and Ranch Show is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 27-28 to be held in Victoria, TX at the Community Center, 2905 E. North St.

Besides the more than 125 booths of ag-related equipment, 14 hours of TDA pesticide CEU’s will be offered over the two days, including 5 hours in laws and regulations, 6 hours in IPM, and 3 hours in general. For crop producers and consultants, 19.5 hours of CCA hours will be offered.

Of course you can’t attend all programs, as some are concurrent sessions, but there is a lot to choose from. And if you are looking to become a private applicator of pesticides on your property,

Pesticide License Training and Testing will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Programs start each day at 7 a.m. with free breakfast at 6:30 a.m. for the first 300.

Featured on Wednesday will be programs at the Cattlemen’s College, plus programs on pesticide misuse, regulation of pesticide discharges into water, IPM concepts, tractor restoration, Rio Grande Wild Turkey Management and Wildlife Enterprises.

On Thursday, programs start with either the Cattlemen’s College or Farming Issues followed by programs on either Estate Planning for Farmers & Ranchers or Citrus Pests and Citrus Greening. After lunch, attendees can learn about retirement planning for farmers & ranchers.

Wednesday’s, Oct. 27, luncheon speaker features nationally renown, Betty Wolanyk, Chief Operating Officer, Ag Literacy Works, Barker, NY. Betty will talk about “Speaking Out For Agriculture: Why?”

On Thursday, Oct. 28, the luncheon speaker is Dr. Don Renchie, Extension Program Leader for Ag & Environmental Safety at College Station. Don’s topic is “The Watch Ain’t Over: We Still Need to Be Vigilant”.

Besides the great array of programs, there will be a significant showing of farm and ranch equipment and related hardware and booths. Plan on attending any program as no reservations are required but your lunch tickets ($10 Wed.– ribeye steak; $7 Thur.) must be purchased by Monday, October 25 from the Victoria County Extension office, 442 Foster Field Dr., Victoria, TX (next to the Victoria airport).
