The Lexington Eagles used a stingy defense and a prolific offense to beat the Rosebud-Lott Cougars 41-14 Friday night. The win pushes Lexington to 2-0 in district play as they enter their bye week.

Lexington scored on a pass, a rush, and a fumble recovery for the fourth time this season. Josh Murray got the Eagles on the scoreboard early with a sweep around the left. Antonio Martinez toed the PAT for a quick 7-0 lead. Lexington would amass a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Lexington widened the lead to 20-7 in the second quarter. RL was able to get a score on an interception.

Xavier Ward made one of the best runs you will ever see as he traversed 68- yards to the end zone after bumping shoulders with almost every member of the RL eleven. He broke through a roadblock at the line of scrimmage, took on a linebacker or two, and then ran over a defensive back before outrunning the pursuers to the end zone.

Brandon Meyer got his second ‘scoop and score’ of the season as he picked up a fumble and made his way to the end zone. Meyer almost had his second score of the game when he intercepted the ball near the Eagle 10-yard line. Meyer sprinted up the side line until some Cougars cut him off at the pass. He started zig-zagging until he was caught about the five-yard line. He threw a lateral to Martinez who never got the handle and the ball fell free near the end zone. RL recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchback.

Ward got a score earlier in the game when he caught a swing pass from Garrett and easily scored. Garrett scored on a quarterback sneak as the Eagle offensive line drove the RL defense back. Martinez was five of six on his PAT kicks.

The Sherrill led Eagle ‘D’ was again dominant though out the ball game. RL had just one first down and a total of 27 yards total offense at the half. Chace Sherrill had 10 tackles in the contest. The big game was by Brandon Meyer. Meyer had seven tackles, two fumble recoveries, a quarterback sack, and the interception plus return.
