2010 Blinn Marching Band Festival is the Largest Yet

Blinn College will host the 36th Annual Buccaneer Marching Band Festival on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Brenham’s Cub Stadium. Bands from 32 Texas high schools will preview their University Interscholastic League (UIL) contest shows for a panel of five judges.

The festival, Blinn’s largest to date, allows high school bands to preview their show in advance of UIL trials and receive constructive comments as they prepare for their respective regional event.

Members of the public are invited to attend the free day of music and watch competitive performances by many of the area’s finest marching bands. Concessions will be provided by the Brenham Band Parents club.

Sponsored by the Blinn College Music Department and hosted by the Blinn College Band, the event began as a recruitment project by Larry Campbell during his second year as director of bands.

“We’re expecting 3,100 high school band members this year,” Campbell said. “This has been a major recruitment event for the college for 36 years.”

The bands will compete for first, second and third place in their classification and for awards for drum major, soloist, color guard and drumline. The Blinn College Drumline will perform an exhibition at 6:15 p.m., with the Buccaneer Band performing at 8:15 p.m..
