Giddings Tops Elgin

Giddings evened its season record at 2-2 with a 51-33 win over neighboring Elgin. Giddings opened a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter despite two lost fumbles in the first quarter. Elgin came roaring back to score two TD’s. With the score 14-13 after the second Elgin score the Wildcats tried for two. Giddings’ Deon Hutchinson intercepted the pass and ran it back for two points to give the Buffs a 16-13 halftime lead.

Giddings scored 35 points in the second half. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter the Buffs distanced themselves for the Wildcats. Giddings scored first in the second half to lead 23-13. Elgin answered to rally back to 23-21. Two more Buff scores moved the Buffs out to 37-21, but pesky Elgin tallied one more time to make it 37-28. Giddings added two more scores to get to 51-28. Elgin scored an insignificant score late in the game.

Eric Rimes led the Giddings onslaught with 151 yards and three touchdowns. Spencer Fitzhenry added two more scores in his 75 yards rushing. Giddings amassed 480 yards rushing on 53 carries which is just a little over nine-yards per carry. All of Giddings yardage came on the ground. Elgin had 350 yards, most of which came in the air.

Joseph Glenn and Deon Hickey scored the other Giddings touchdowns. Michael Rangel added all seven PAT kicks attempted.
