Giddings-West Orange Canceled

Death of young quarterback rips through West O community
by Mike Organ

The Saturday game between Giddings and West Orange Stark has been canceled. The unexpected death of WOS QB Reggie Garrett during Friday’s game with Jasper is the reason for the cancellation. The WOS staff is also considering canceling the next game with Kirbyville also.

The reason for Garrett’s death is unexplained as of this writing. According to the Athens Daily Review website, “Reggie Garrett, had just thrown a 13-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter when he collapsed.”

“Garrett had not celebrated much before collapsing on the sidelines. He was taken from the field on a stretcher, then rushed by ambulance to Baptist Hospital Orange.”

“He died about an hour later.”

Giddings will return to action October 8 against long-time rival LaGrange.
