Man Found Dead Under Shredder
On Monday, September 13, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call concerning a man found trapped under a shredder. Deputies Robert Carvin, Nathan Lapham, and Jack Allen were dispatched to 1124 CR 301 where the initial investigation revealed that the victim had been trapped under the shredder for several hours.
It appeared William Edward Granz, age 72 from Elgin, had fallen from the tractor. However, the tractor’s motor was not running and the shredder was not engaged. It was unclear how the victim had gotten trapped under the shredder and investigators felt that, in some way, the victim was struck by the rear wheel of the tractor and ended trapped underneath the shredder.
Granz was pronounced dead at the scene by Lee County Justice of the Peace Nick Hester. His body was transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Granz was formerly of Shiner. He served his country in the US Air Force and was retired from the National Cash Register Company. A graveside service was held last Saturday at the Shiner Catholic Cemetery in Shiner, Texas.
