Soccer Season Begins
Saturday September 11th was supposed to be the official start of the soccer season, but with all the rains most games in Giddings were postponed due to the wet playing fields. The Lee County Girls U12 Angels however got to play their first game because they traveled to Victoria to start their season. The Angels took on the defending Victoria Heat with a 2pm start time in 95F with high humidity. It was hot!! Lee County started off the scoring when Courtney Strain sent a penalty kick sailing into the corner of the net. Janay Wilson of Lee County followed up with two more scores and half time ended with Lee County up 3-0. The second half was more of an endurance match with both teams battling the heat and fatigue. The only goal to the second half was scored by Lee County’s Courtney Strain from an assist by Heather Gallier. The final score was Lee County Angels over the Victoria Heat 4-0. Delaney Hirsch, Mallory Basquez, Jasmine Garcia, Vivian Ratcliff, Hannah Kipp, Natasha Thiele, Jasmine Luna, Shyler Mayfield and Megan Rangel were instrumental in the win along with Coaches Martin and Michael Rangel.
