Eagles Take on Geronimo

by Mike Organ

The Geronimo Navarro Panthers come to town this Friday night with what could be the Eagles’ toughest test this season. The Panthers seem to be a ground based offense. They have rushed two times for every pass tried. Navarro beat Luling in their opening game 45-0; next they topped San Antonio Christian 22- 20, and last week they beat a good Antonian team 28-14.

The Panthers return five offensive and seven defensive players from last years’ 9-2 team. Quarterback John Borman is the team leader. He was the District defensive MVP last season while running the offense.

Navarro returns a bunch of skill athletes with good speed. Eric Schleier (6’, 195 lb., 4.7) has been the top rusher in previous games. The offensive line is large, averaging over 221 pounds per man. Tight end Cody Jandt (6’3”, 23l lbs) leads the way.

Geronimo is a school on the rise. The Panthers were just a basketball school in the 70’s and this season they are moving into 3A competition based on their school enrollment. It’ll be a good game. Kickoff is at 7:30.
