Giddings Tops Burnet

by Mike Organ

The Giddings Buffaloes opened up a 28-0 lead and then cruised to a 28-14 win over the Burnet Bulldogs in the first game played at the newly turfed Buff Stadium. Eric Rimes rushed 20 times for 204 yards and Spencer Fitzhenry rushed 14 times for 183 yards and two scores. The state ranked Buffs are beginning to show why they deserve the ranking.

After a scoreless first quarter, Dion Hutchison scored the first TD of the 2010 season on a threeyard scamper. Fitzhenry then went eight-yards for the second score to give Giddings a 14-0 lead at halftime after Michael Rangel added the first two of four PAT kicks.

Burnet is continuing in the McGee/Shipley tradition as they threw the ball 41 times. Coach Zamora’s defense was up to the task allowing only nine completions for 138 yards.

Joseph Glenn showed another piece of Giddings arsenal as he flashed 23-yards in the third quarter for the next score. Fitzhenry added his second score in the fourth quarter on a nine-yard trip to put the Buffs up 28-0.

Giddings substituted liberally as the Burnet offense began to have some success. The Bulldogs scored and recovered an onside kick. They then got another score before Giddings stopped the late bleeding.
