Giddings Hosts Royal
Giddings hopes to remain undefeated this season as they host the Brookshire Royal Falcons. The Falcons are the team that unexpectedly eliminated the Buffs 40-21 from the 2009 state playoffs.
Royal has one of the best running backs in the state, Brandon Williams, to lead them into the contest. Williams rushed for 1,905 yards last season in route to scoring 16 ground TDs. He also caught 42 passes for 587 yards and four more scores. He has committed to Oklahoma for the 2011 football season. Williams is not alone on the Royal roster. Five offensive and five defensive starters return from last season. Williams has a good friend in offensive lineman Tyler Hartmen (6’2”, 280 lbs.). The Falcons can also toss the ball to 6’ 200 lb wide receiver Davion Richards.
Royal defeated a relatively weak Wharton team 40-28 in the opening game. Williams rushed 15 times for 269 yards averaging 17.9 yards per carry. Williams scored four times on runs of 67, 42, 68, and 48 yards.
The Falcon defense was a bit porous as Wharton rushed for 348 yards on 60 carries.
