Back To School Tennis Tourney Is A Hot One!
Sophomore Mackenzie Brown, after being named MVP at the Rockdale Tourney in July, brought an encore performance to the Lexington Back-To-School Tennis Tournament by winning 3 events and placing 2nd in another. Brown teamed with Rick Spencer in the Adult Mixed Doubles to defeat the Maldonado’s from Rockdale in the finals and Kerry Bexley and Ally Abshire in the semifinals. Bexley and Abshire won the 3rd place trophy defeating the #1 Seed, the Michna’s from Taylor. Mackenzie won the girls singles title defeating a Rockdale girl 6-0, 6-0. She also won the Junior Mixed Doubles with London Jacob dominating a Rockdale team 6-1, 6-1. Brown also played in the 16 Boys Doubles event placing 2nd with a boy from Thrall. Father/Son duo Larry and LJ Maxwell placed 2nd in Men’s Doubles losing to the Thomason’s of Milano in a tiebreaker. LJ also placed 2nd in Men’s Singles.
The highlight of the Junior Division was three Eagles netters teams in the Boys 12 Doubles Division. Colby Bexley and Sam Perry defeated Vance Kasner and Jacob Townsend 8-4 for the championship. Kasner and Townsend placed 2nd. Blake Gibson and Coby Robertson won the bronze medal with two outstanding matches. They lost 9- 7 to Kasner/Jacobs and 9-7 to the eventual champions Bexley and Perry. Kasner won the Boys 12 Singles defeating Blake King of Rockdale 8-4. Bexley placed 3rd defeating Townsend 9-7. Gibson defeated Perry 8-1 for consolation and Joseph Kelly won the 7th place match 8-5 over a Thorndale player. London Jacobs lost to the eventual champion 6-4, 6-4 and then defeated a Rockdale player 6-4 for 3rd place. Vaughn Kasner also played well losing to the eventual champion in Boys 16 Singles.
