by Mike Organ

The volleyball girls made a huge trip that is usually great for team bonding. The players have mutual experiences and other players in their stories. The Newcastle team that the Lady Eagles played is the same school Giddings played for the state championship in 1951. Newcastle now plays six-man football.

The Eagle defense kicked Robinson and Rockdale’s offenses in the scrimmage. If the offense can get on a par with the defense, this could be THE year!!!!!

Memory Lane: Lexington was to play Bartlett on September 21, 1961. Lexington was 0-3 at the time, losing to Pflugerville 80-0, Sheridan 14-0, and Calvert 32-0. Robert Patschke, a 185 lb. fullback leads the Lexington attack, according to the Bartlett Tribune and News. Other Eagle lettermen were: Stanley Miller (135 lb. center), Roddy Holcomb (215 lb. tackle) and Robert Jensen (135 lb. quarterback). Quentin Hayes, Ronnie Heinemann, Joe Bricker, Richard Reat, Jacky Ruthven, and Keith Brown are also mentioned in the article.
