Eagles in 3-Way Scrimmage

by Mike Organ

Lexington will scrimmage both Robinson and Rockdale Thursday in Robinson. The varsity scrimmage will start about 6:30 with the Lexington defense going against the Robinson offense. After 10 plays Robinson’s defense will take on Rockdale’s offense for 10 snaps. The Lexington offense will test the Rockdale defense for a 10-play series. The second teams will do the same rotation and then the first teamers will come back for more action. It will be Lexington offense vs. Robinson D; Rockdale D vs. Robinson O; and Lexington D vs. Rockdale O. Lexington and Robinson will then play a running quarter of football, minus the kicking game.

Robinson is coming off a 2-8 season with an experienced defense. They return four offensive and seven defensive starters from last season’s team. The Rockets scrimmaged Mexia the first week and held their own against the state-ranked Black Cats.

Rockdale will be the second team from District 23-AAA for the Eagles. The Tigers will be a real test. The Tiger offense will be led by Division I recruit LaRaven Clark (6’6”, 260lbs) and Dylan Shnerr (6’4” 250lbs) at tackles. Running back Daniel Brooks is a real scooter with 4.4 40-yard dash speed. Linebacker Derek David figures to be dominating on defense with speed and size. He is 6’3”, 220 lbs with 4.6 speed.

The Eagle JV will start their part of the scrimmage at 5:15 using the same type of rotation the varsities will use.

To get to Rocket Stadium in Robinson the directions are fairly simple. Take highway 77 north to Robinson and turn left on Rocket Drive. Rocket Drive will take you to the area where the stadium is located.
