Lee County Historical Commission Presents Award to Cabins
Lexington Log Cabins and Heritage Center, Inc. has been selected by the Lee County Historical Commission as this year’s recipient for the Annual Carolyn Calvin Marble Friend of Lee County History Award. The presentation will be made at the Cabin’s regular meeting scheduled on Sunday, September 12, 2010.
For several years the Lee County Historical Commission selected a Lee County teacher to honor for outstanding work in teaching local history. Beginning in 2008, the Commission elected to honor an organization, group, business or individual in recognition of efforts to preserve Lee County history. Any Lee County citizen is welcome to contact the Commission to submit
recommendations for this annual recognition.
The first receipient of this award was presented to Carolyn Marble at the Giddings Chamber of Commerce banquet in August 2008 in recognition of her tireless efforts to preserve local history, as she led the Lee County Historical Commission for many years. The Commission chose to name this annual award in her honor - thus the Carolyn Calvin Marble Friend of Lee County History Award.
In 2009 the commission elected to recognize the Texas Wendish Heritage Society. The award was presented to this organization at their annual Wendish Fest on September 27, 2009.
Everyone is invited to attend the September 12 meeting to be held at the Lexington Log Cabins, located on the north side of the Square, at 2 p.m. and learn a bit about local history and participate in the presentation of this award.
