Wearing a National Championship Ring

by Mike Organ
E.J. Hawkins (LHS class of ‘05) is the first ex-Lexington player wear a National Championship Ring in modern times. (Jack Rhoades 1941 Texas team may have gotten rings.) Hawkins’ Northwest Missouri State team won the Division II championship this past season. NWMS was in the national championship game each of Hawkins five seasons in Maryville, Missouri.

Pictured is the ring Hawkins will wear as a reminder of his athleticism when he gets older. The value of the ring will increase with each passing year.

Lexington native Earl Cooper has two Super Bowl rings that he has forever. The rings commemorate his team, the 49ers, as being the best team in pro football for that particular year.
