Travis “Big T” Lee Mertink

June 29, 1955 - July 31,2010

Travis passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Seton Medical Center in Austin.

Travis Lee Mertink was born on June 29, 1955 in Huntington Park, California to Paul Walter & Evelyn May (Bluser) Mertink. He was baptized on July 17, 1955 at Bell Garden Lutheran Church in Bell Garden, California by Rev. R.H. Kaltoff. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1974. Travis was united in marriage to Linda Lehmann on February 14, 2002 in Giddings. He was a welder and had been employed with Centex Marine Fabricators in Smithville and with Permian Tank and Invader Boat Company both in Giddings. Travis enjoyed making barbeque, camping, fishing, gardening and spending time outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Mertink; his brother, Aaron Mertink and his sister, Sandra Bluntschly.

Travis is survived by his wife, Linda Lehmann Mertink of Winchester; his mother, Evelyn Morris of Desert Palm Springs, California; two sons, Matthew & Monica Mertink of Giddings and Luke Mertink & Michelle Richardson of Paige; two grandchildren, Matthew Mertink of Giddings and Kylie Mertink of Paige; brother, Paul & Bonnie Mertink Jr. of Warda; uncle, Marvin & Ruth Mertink of Hillsboro and nieces and nephews, Christy Dalton of La Grange, Cierra Mertink of Warda, Angelin Mihaljevic of Ohio, Gale Paul “Bear” Mihaljevic of Ohio, Damond Mihaljevic of Ohio and Michael Mihaljevic of Ohio.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kerri Becker, Bernie Miertschin, Troy Votaw, Daniel Noack, Jerry Flippo, Marvin Kipp and Tom Juergens.

Funeral services forTravis “Big T” Mertink, 55 of Winchester, were held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester with Rev. James Herzog officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church Anniversary Fund or the charity of one’s choice.
