Frieda Emma Karcher
Frieda Emma Schiwart Karcher was born on August 17, 1920 in Lincoln to Gerhard & Alma (Mitschke) Schiwart. She was baptized on August 22, 1926 and confirmed on March 25, 1934 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. Reinhard Osthoff. She married David Herman Henry Karcher on November 25, 1937 in Lincoln. Their union was blessed with two children, Larry & Carolyn. Mr. & Mrs. Karcher owned and operated the 77 Grocery in Giddings for many years and she was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dave Karcher; her son, Larry Karcher; one brother, Ernest “Sonny” Schiwart and one sister, Roselie Matthijetz.
Mrs. Karcher is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Hartfield of Dime Box; her daughter-in-law, Lucille Karcher of New Braunfels; five grandchildren, Tammy Sherman of Lexington, Sonja & Charlie King of Smithville, Tim & Holly Karcher of Smithville, David & Kelly Meyer of Lexington and Wayne Karcher of Smithville; thirteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She will also be missed by many friends and other family members.
We were all blessed by knowing and being loved by this special lady. She will remain forever in our hearts.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Meyer, Brandon Meyer, Tyler Meyer, Tim Karcher, Wayne Karcher and Ryan Hazelwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Meyer, Timothy Karcher, Justin Karcher and Harley Morriss.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hour, the American Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice.
