J.B. Gersch Jr.

September 16, 1929 - July 15, 2010

J.B. passed away at his home in Giddings on Thursday, July 15, 2010.

John Bernhard Gersch Jr. was born on September 16, 1929 in Giddings, Texas to John B. & Esther (Tschatschula) Gersch. He was baptized on September 22, 1929 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. G.W. Fischer and confirmed also at Immanuel on March 29, 1942 by Rev. Max Studtmann. J.B. attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Giddings High School. He attended Blinn College and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He obtained the rank of Corporal in the U.S. Army serving his country during the Korean War. J.B. was a retired computer analyst with Texaco in Houston for nearly 30 years. He was a Certified Master Gardener and a member of the Giddings Garden Club. He served as Secretary of the Texas Wendish Heritage Society in Serbin and was a member of the Lee County Historical Society, the Roadrunners Travel Club, a volunteer at the Lee County Senior Citizens Center, a representative for the Texas Department of Aging and an active supporter of Festival Hill in Round Top.

J.B. was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by family members Ruth Tschatschula of Brenham, Beverly & Kenneth Peters of Brenham, Kenneth Peters II & fiance Kimberly High of Brenham and Elizabeth & Ryan Jones & their daughter Lauren of Austin. He is also survived by a special friend, Betty Jo Knippa of Giddings as well as numerous other family members and friends.

Funeral services for J.B. Gersch Jr., 80 of Giddings, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Keith Aschenbeck officiating. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family was present for visitation Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
