Three Arrested in Dime Box Aggravated Armed Robbery
The Lee County Sheriff’s Department reported this week that they have arrested three of four people involved in an aggravated armed robbery of the Diamond P Lease and Well Service located in Dime Box. The event happened in the early morning hours of Friday, July 9. With the help of the Texas Rangers it was determined that four individuals were involved in the robbery. Affidavits and warrants of Arrest were issued by Justice of the Peace Troy Bise for the four individuals.
Michael Lynn Roberts, 28 years old (D.O.B. 9-22-1981) from Giddings, was arrested on July 10, in Giddings without incident.
Additional information received by the Sheriff’s Department determined that the second suspect, Phillip Marshal Shaffer, age 25 (D.O.B. 11-6-1984) with ties to Giddings and La Grange, was in the Houston area. With the aid of the Texas Ranger Service in Houston, Shaffer was arrested at a motel on July 11, 2010. He was extradited back to Lee County on or around July 15.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, a fourth subject has not been located and no money has been recovered from the arrests.
All three suspects in custody had prior arrest and conviction records with Shaffer’s record showing more prior arrests than the other two.
As we reported last week, two unknown males entered the front door of Diamond P Lease and Well Service. They were wearing dark clothes, gloves and ski masks and demanded the payroll from the owner of the business Pete Vega, and employees Domingo Rodriguez and Raul Perez.
The victims handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspects demanded the keys to Perez’s pickup, which was located later that night burned.
Investigating Officers include Sheriff Rodney Meyer, Chief Deputy Charles Kothmann, Deputy James Crockett, Deputy Michael York, and Texas Ranger Cody Mitchell.
