4-H Awards Program & Dance

The 4-H Clubs of Lee County will host their annual 4-H Awards Program on Friday, August 6, at 6:30 pm at the American Legion Hall in Giddings. This program will count as the August meeting for all Clubs. Everyone currently enrolled in 4-H or who is interested in joining 4-H, is invited to attend. A chicken/beef fajita dinner will be served. The cost is $5/person.

After the program, the 4-H Parent Volunteer Association of Lee County invites everyone to remain and enjoy a dance. If you or someone you know have considered 4-H, now is a time to get involved. Lee County Extension Agents, Tonya Poncik and Keeton Ehrig will be in attendance, ready to answer any questions you might have about 4-H and club activities, opportunities and competitions.

During the program, awards and recognition will be presented to those participating in the various 4-H activities this past year. If you are planning on attending the 4-H Program, please RSVP by July 30 to the Lee County Extension office.

It’s in the Bag

“It’s in the Bag” for the 4-H Multi-County Fashion Camp. Lee, Grimes and Washington counties are sponsoring a 4-H Sewing Adventure on Monday, August 2, in the Lee County Extension office in Giddings. Youth, ages 5 to 18, are invited. You don’t have to be a member of 4-H to participate.

Each session will be a “handson” experience, making:

• Capri Sun tote bags

• laundry detergent for community service

• an opportunity to make a unique pin cushion, and

• learn the latest on fashion story board.

RSVP by July 28, to the Extension office at 979-542-2753. The class is free; each participant must bring 14 empty Capri Sun drink pouches.

Leader College

All Lee County 4-H Club Managers, Parent Leaders and Project Leaders are encouraged to participate in the Leader College scheduled for Saturday, August 14, in New Waverly. Leader College is an excellent opportunity to sharpen leadership skills for another successful 4-H year. Sessions will include topics such as: Bug-O-Mania, Community Service, Healthy Lifestyles, Poultry Showing & Judging, 4-H Opportunity Scholarships, Digital Storytelling, Rabbit Project and Wildlife Skill-A-Thon.

Registration deadline is August 1. Contact the Extension office for more details.

State 4-H Horse Show

The Lee County 4-H Program will be represented in Abilene at the State 4-H Horse Show by the Texas Stars and Rising Stars drill/ precision riding teams. Having competed at the District level, these teams are ready to take on state-wide competition. Good luck to all the riders!

Major Sheep/Goat Tag Orders

Major Market Sheep/Goat and Breeding Sheep validation tags must be ordered through the Extension office by August 31. Payment must be received for tags when ordered.
