Eagles Fare Well at Taylor Tennis Tourney
Young Eagle tennis players brought home 13 medals, with four double winners at the Taylor Tennis Tournament held last week. Jacob Townsend brought home two gold medals winning the Boys 12 Singles and teaming up with Colby Bexley to win the Boys 14 Doubles. Mackenzie Brown, Blake Gibson, and Vance Kasner were also double winners in the event.
Bexley joined London Jacob, and Coby Robertson with 1st place finishes in their divisions.
Lexington and Giddings netters are a part of the Tennis Academy at Lexington and work out each morning during the summer under the guidance of Rick Spencer. There are almost 20 young athletes that participate in the program. They now will be gearing up for a Rockdale tournament to be held later this month and a Lexington tournament scheduled for August.
A match yet to be played for the Boys 12 Singles Champion will be two Lexington netters-8 year old Coby Robertson and the #1 Seed Blake Gibson.
Two of the most exciting matches in the tourney was in the 12 boys semifinals. Robertson defeated Sam Perry 9-7 in a match that came down to the very last point; and also Gibson defeating Bexley 8-4 in a match that was much closer than the score indicates. They were by far the top four players in their age group.
Bexley revenged his singles loss teaming with Townsend to defeat Gibson and Kasner 8-5; to make it an All-Lexington final. Townsend met Kasner also in the boys 14 Singles final defeating him 8-5.
In the high school division, Mackenzie Brown brought home the gold in 14 Mixed Doubles and won the consolation medal in 18 Mixed Doubles. Brown and Mackenzie rolled through their matches in 14 Mixed defeating a Thorndale team and a Thrall team 8-2 and 8-0 respectively. Brown and Kaelan Blok won consolation in 18 Mixed losing to a Thrall team 4-6, 6-7 and then defeating Thrall’s #2 team 6-2, 7-5.
Jacobs and Vaughn Kasner played well in a very strong 18 Singles division.
