4H Day Camp

The Burleson County 4H Council will host their annual day camp on Monday, June 21, at the Burleson County Fairgrounds Exposition Center in Caldwell. The half-day camp is open to kids between the ages of 5 and 18.

Participants do not have to be 4H members to attend.

The camp allows potential new members to learn more about 4H and for current 4H members to meet new friends and have fun while learning new skills.

Registration will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. and participants should not arrive before 1 p.m.

100th Anniversary St. John’s Lutheran Church in Deanville will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Sunday, June 27. A social hour will be held from 9 – 10 a.m. prior to the worship service, which will begin at 10 a.m.

Bishop Michael Rinehart of Houston will conduct the communion service and a number of former pastors will attend.

A noon meal will be served at the Deanville Fire Station followed by a cake and ice cream social.

Historical memorabilia will be exhibited in the church fellowship hall.

The church was formerly organized as a Lutheran church on June 26, 1910 and shared a pastor with Elizabeth Lutheran in Caldwell for 70 years.

Visitors who plan to attend the noon meal are asked to call the church office by June 20 at 979- 535-4125.


Mimosas and Memories

Historic Old Town Shiner will present the 2010 Mimosas and Memories Luncheon, celebrating the artistry of Shiner at the Shiner Restaurant and Bar on Saturday, June 19 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. This year’s program will focus on the skilled and varied artists and artisans of Shiner, including experts in the arts of sculpture, saintmaking, painting, writing, baking, woodworking and more.

Patrons can enjoy mimosas while Randy Rouse of the Shiner Restaurant and Bar demonstrates his skills at making champagne cocktails and appetizers.


Little Shop of Horrors

Playhouse Smithville will hold its first auditions Saturday, June 19 at 2 p.m. and Monday, June 21 at 7 p.m. as it launches its season with “Little Shop of Horrors”. Founded by John and April Daniels, Playhouse Smithville has an ambitious season planned, starting on July 23. It is located at 110 Main Street in Smithville.
