Several teams from Central Texas are still alive in the baseball playoffs. Lake Travis, Thorndale, Giddings, and Lexington’s district representative, Rogers, are still in the playoffs. We must play some pretty good ‘hardball’ in this area. Congratulations to all the teams still in the title hunt.
I needed some information about Robstown, so I turned to Lexington’s resident baseball expert, William Miller, for the answers. Mr. Miller has seen thousands of baseball games in the last few years and travel is not a restriction if there is a touted player on the team. He wants to see them play and does. By his own account he already has his ticket for the state baseball tourney. This will be his 20th consecutive tourney. He even saw Eagle Coach Craig Finley play in the state tourney a few years back. By the way, his information was right on the Cottonpickers, a baseball powerhouse in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
Giddings has been highly rated all baseball season long. So far they have answered every challenge. The town support is great. There was a large crowd on hand Thursday night for the first game of the Robstown series.
With school out for the summer, there are already summer leagues in basketball, volleyball, and baseball underway. There are camps scheduled for almost the entire summer to keep the athletes busy and in shape. Just one question, when do the parents get a break? Graduation seems to be the answer.
